Looking forward to 2025 and puppy availability!

10 September 2024

You might think it early to be thinking about the new year – but in the dog world?  We think in terms of trimesters, especially as breeders.

CH Lillibet is off her food and clearly, her breedings took.  She appears to be pregnant and I’ve calculated her anticipated due date as October 20, 2024.  At this time, I am holding six applications with deposits at my desk and so, not anticipating any puppy availability for any new folks.  But just yesterday, Coco came into heat and this is very exciting, as there are applications on her clipboard already!

If you’re new to Kensington and how I do what I do, let me introduce myself.

My name is Wendyll Behrend and I did not grow up in dogs.  But I came to the Tibetan Terrier breed in 1992 with my first pair from Nina Wagner – and I fell in love with TTs.  I’ve been breeding since 2006 and feel so grateful to be able to do exactly what I want to do during these retired years of my life.

Coco will be bred again with Tashi.  She is black with white marks and he is sable.  It is what we call a repeat breeding, as I very much liked what we got in their first six puppies.  I like to repeat breedings to create a larger ‘data sample’, if you will – because if I find a puppy I’d like to bring into my breeding program?  I want to know that it is not an anomaly but rather, consistent with its littermates for phenotype.  Genetic diversity is very important to me, as are temperament, structure, health and beauty.  And we have quite a few requests for the sable coat color (not brindle, as that is a coat pattern) – so, I need to manage the coat color genetics of sire and dam, in order to produce what my peeps want in their Kensington kid.

My web site is a mess, these days, but that won’t last forever!  And communicating with my peeps is more important than taking me out of the game and immersing me in technology.

Allegra with her seven babies. 28 March 2022.

My preference is complete and total immersion in my dogs, puppies and the lovely cast of characters who are part of the Kensington community.  We don’t need me to become a web site designer.  We need me to stay focused on doing my best with these terrific little quadrupeds and dealing with the web site, when there is time.

Thank you all for your support.  Fingers crossed and oranges to Buddha for good sized and healthy litters of pups in October 2024 out of Lilli and in later November 2024 out of Coco!

Yours very truly,

Wendyll.
